It’s been so nice to be done with our roadtrip that I haven’t posted in awhile! The news is that we made it to Nashville a few weeks ago, and last weekend we hopped down to Atlanta to visit some of Clayton’s family. Now we are settling in for a few months in Music City.
Originally we thought we would be using Nashville as a brief homebase while we visited family and prepared for our move to Chicago. But neither of us have found jobs there yet, so we had to rethink this plan. Clayton is now taking a course to get trained to teach English as a second language (ESL) at the Tennessee Foreign Language Institute. This class will run through April 24th, then he will have to be observed in the classroom in early May. So now we will be here into the early summer!
I thought that by being in Nashville, jobless, and home all day that I could actually get some stuff done. Perhaps take on a new hobby. Finish articles to submit for publication. You know, enjoy a bit of free time. What I have discovered is that with two small children it is hard to get anything done. This came as a surprise to me. In reality what I have is 2 hours during Autumn’s nap. I still plan on getting articles done, but it will probably take me longer. In addition, I have decided to take up a new form of art: monotype prints.
For those of you who knew me in my pre-archaeology days, you will remember that I painted. I sold a few items in a gallery in Sewickley, Pennsylvania but mostly painted for my own personal enjoyment. I didn’t take my paints or easel to Hawaii, so was happy to get them back and pick it up again. This time I am trying monotypes. This kind of art is made by painting on a piece of plexiglass, then transferring the painting to paper by pressing and rolling (like in a print press). I’m excited to see how it turns out and will post some artwork if it’s not too bad.
